Policy & Advocacy
Waste management cannot succeed without strong policies and proper enforcement. Over the years, Lagos has launched several waste initiatives, but many have failed due to lack of citizen awareness, weak enforcement, and limited collaboration with communities. At Lagos Waste Forum, we actively push for policies that protect both people and the environment. Our advocacy is focused on three areas:
- Policy Watch: We monitor existing government waste regulations and break them down into simple language that citizens can understand. Instead of complex laws buried in government websites, we explain the rules in everyday terms and show people how it affects their lives.
- Citizen Advocacy: We believe change starts with ordinary people. We train residents on how to engage their local authorities, report illegal dumping, and demand accountability for poor waste collection.
- Legislation Support: We work with lawmakers to push for new regulations, such as restrictions on single-use plastics, incentives for recycling startups, and penalties for large-scale polluters.
- Community Voices: We create platforms — forums, town halls, and workshops — where everyday Lagosians can share their challenges and propose practical solutions.
By combining grassroots voices with high-level advocacy, Lagos Waste Forum ensures that policies are not just written on paper but are enforced in streets, markets, schools, and households.
