Research & Innovation Hub
Lagos is a city that never sleeps — millions of people wake up each morning, go to work, run businesses, and buy and sell goods in markets. But with all this activity comes a problem: more waste than our systems can handle. Plastic bags end up in drains, electronics pile up in homes, and food waste fills the markets. Old solutions are no longer enough. This is why Lagos Waste Forum created the Research & Innovation Hub — a space where bright minds come together to ask tough questions and create practical solutions.
- Gathering Data for Smarter Action
For years, waste management in Lagos has been handled with guesswork. Nobody knew exactly how much waste was being produced in each community or what type of waste was most common. At the Hub, we collect real data from neighborhoods, markets, schools, and households. This information helps us design smarter interventions. For example, if data shows a community produces more food waste than plastic, we can focus on composting solutions instead of plastic recycling. - Supporting Eco-Innovators
We know many young people in Lagos have ideas, but they lack support. Through our Innovation Hub, we provide mentorship, training, and sometimes even seed funding for eco-tech startups. From apps that reward recycling to machines that convert plastic into building blocks, we give innovators the platform to test and grow their ideas. - Publishing Knowledge
Every year, we publish reports and journals that document the realities of waste in Lagos. These publications are not written in academic jargon that only professors can understand — they are simplified so ordinary Lagosians, policymakers, and businesses can learn and take action. - Collaborating with Partners
We do not work alone. We partner with universities, research institutes, and international organizations to design projects that can solve local waste challenges while meeting global sustainability goals.
The Hub is not just about research for research’s sake. It is about turning knowledge into action. Our dream is for Lagos to be known not as a city drowning in waste, but as Africa’s center for green innovation.
