Open Defecation Free (ODF) Cities

Open defecation poses serious threats to public health, contaminating soil and water, and spreading disease. Ending open defecation is key to building healthier and more dignified communities.

Through our ODF initiative, The Waste Forum works to:

  • Promote access to clean, safe, and affordable sanitation facilities.

  • Mobilize communities for behavior change and hygiene promotion.

  • Support policy frameworks that encourage city-wide ODF status.

  • Partner with schools and grassroots groups to instill sustainable sanitation habits.

An ODF city is a healthier city — and with collective action, we can achieve it.
